Bed Bug Biology/Causes
Bed Bug Biology
Understanding bed bug biology can help homeowners recognize early warning signs and take preventive action. Bed bugs feed on blood for 3 to 12 minutes at a time, up to three times per week. Females lay 2 to 3 eggs daily, which hatch within 7 to 10 days. With a steady food source, young bed bugs can reach adulthood in one to two months.
Bed bugs typically live between 6 months and 1.5 years, and some can survive without feeding for 6 to 12 months. While they prefer human blood, they are opportunistic and will feed on animals if necessary.
Causes of Infestations
Bed bugs are often transported through luggage, clothing, and personal belongings while traveling. Secondhand furniture is another common source. Bed bugs frequently hide in seams, cushions, and frames, so always inspect used items carefully before bringing them inside.
Shared living spaces, such as apartments and dorms, increase the risk of bed bug spread. An infestation in one unit can quickly affect others, so all residents should take preventive measures. Clutter creates ideal hiding spots, making it harder to detect and manage bed bugs. Keeping areas clean and organized helps reduce potential harborage zones.
Science Drives Our Treatments
We have experience servicing nationally recognized food and retail brands. We always provide complete, organized and audit ready pest management documentation, including service records, site maps, trend reports, corrective actions, and chemical usage logs in alignment with SQF code requirements.

Here’s how Eradicare eliminates Bed Bugs from your property and stops them from coming back:
Identification, Treatment, and Prevention
Bed Bug Inspection
The elusive habits of bed bugs make them difficult to detect, but early detection is crucial in preventing a widespread infestation. Bed bug inspections in North Carolina and Tennessee are the first step to extermination if you believe you may have an infestation.
Because bed bugs are so difficult to locate, inspections are charged as a separate service. During an inspection, our team will conduct a thorough examination of your property using visual, chemical, and electronic methods. Upon completion of the initial inspection, we will write up a full report of the infestation, bed bug species, and proposed extermination plan.
Bed Bug Treatments
We understand the urgency of eliminating bed bugs from your home, which is why we provide comprehensive treatment options. Our methods include chemical, heat, and Aprehend Biopesticide treatments, all aimed at eradicating bed bugs at every stage of their life cycle.
We will recommend the most effective approach based on the severity of your infestation. Treatments usually consist of four sessions, and we follow up afterward to ensure complete elimination.
Bed Bug Prevention
After successful extermination, bed bug prevention treatment in North Carolina and Tennessee is an important step to ensure bed bug populations do not return. For prevention, we use a desiccant dust product that has no odor and does not stain. When bed bugs walk through this dust, it absorbs into the waxy coating of their exoskeleton, dehydrates them, and then causes death.
The dust is applied lightly in areas that bed bugs frequent, like baseboards, bed frames, cracks and crevices, and furniture. It is long-lasting, effective, and works on all stages of the bed bug life cycle. It is also non-toxic and safe for pets or kids.
Our technicians will also suggest further prevention methods, such as reducing clutter, vacuuming regularly, sealing entry points, and taking care with luggage when traveling. Establishing a consistent inspection and treatment schedule enables early intervention, reducing the likelihood of large-scale infestations..

There is only one species of bed bug in NC and TN and that is the common bed bug Cimex lectularius. There are however other insects in the same family (cimicidae) that look similar to a bed bug like the swallow bug, bat bug, and Mexican chicken bug. Most other cimicids are associated with birds and bats.
Correct Identification is Key
Make sure your “bed bugs” are getting properly identified as treatments are very different for these insects. Bed bugs are invasive and typically much harder to control. Swallow bugs and bat bugs typically require removing or excluding the bats and birds and then a simple pest control treatment around entry points. Swallow bugs and bat bugs typically do not have the high resistance to modern pesticides like a bed bug and are fairly easy to control once their food source is gone.

You. They feed on blood, so they are attracted to and are very adept at living with humans. That being said they are not coming from the outdoors and must be carried or brought in to a home or business. Attractants!

Bed bugs leave a dark spot when they defecate. It is smooth and black. This black spotting is often found in cracks and crevices of a wooden headboard or bed frame, edges of a box spring, mattress, bed skirt, or the piping or edges of furniture.
Shed skins
As bed bugs grow they shed their skin. They do this 5 times before they are a full adult. These shed skins may be difficult to find but they are definitely a sign that you have bed bugs. The sheds look like a shell of a bed bug and are light tan in color.
